Blue Cross Blue Shield Sidesteps Anesthesiology Antitrust Case

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan tentatively dodged antitrust litigation Tuesday over its alleged scheme to bully, boycott, and underpay the state’s largest private anesthesiology practice, when a federal judge in Detroit rejected claims that the insurance giant abused its dominant buying power.

Judge Terrence G. Berg dismissed the case without prejudice from the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, saying Anesthesiology Associates of Ann Arbor failed to show it had suffered “an injury that the antitrust laws were intended to prevent.”
